The Benefits of Silicone Lubricants in the Food Production Industry

The Benefits of Silicone Lubricants in the Food Production Industry

Within the food industry you’re likely to find silicone lubricants being widely used as a great way to protect equipment and machinery and also for cleaning purposes. A lubricant is required on moving parts of machinery and on surfaces that are more likely to become clogged with grease and oils, such as in the food production industry.

By using a lubricant on your machinery it is more likely to last at a high level of effectiveness and productivity as the lubricant cleans and coats the surfaces, preventing them from wearing out from friction or allowing mould and rust to settle in places, causing degradation of the equipment.

Why Silicone Lubricants?

Silicone lubricants are a fantastic option in harsh environments such as the food production and chemical industries. There are a number of reasons why this is the case and over a longer period a silicone lubricant will be much more effective than an organic lubricant in your workplace.

At room temperature a silicone lubricant is less likely to be affected by any temperature changes in the immediate environment due to its viscosity and high boiling point, and because of their inertness to most chemicals a silicone lubricant is perfect for the food industry. They are also incredibly versatile and strong, able to withstand huge weight as well as temperature.

It’s resistance to oxidisation means that silicone is always an attractive option for a lubricant when compared to an organic lubricant. The whole reason you need a lubricant for cleaning and as a preventative measure is because you want your equipment and machinery to last as long as possible at the high standard it currently performs at.

Brick Cleaner – How to Effectively Clean Brickwork

If left for a long period without any cleaning being undertaken the brickwork to your property can start to become dirty and covered in moss. Of course the longer you leave it like this, the harder it will become to effectively remove.

What are your main options when it comes to cleaning brick without damaging the surface and the appearance of your property? Each of the options below can be used in conjunction with a cleaning fluid; there are so many options available on the market that it can hard to know which one is most suited to your property, type of brickwork and situation.

Hand Washing

Using a stiff brush to scrub away with and a bucket full of hot soapy water you can manually clean the brickwork on the exterior wall of your home or business premises. Of course, by scrubbing away at the brickwork you will remove some of the dirt, and some of the moss which is growing there but it will take a huge amount of time and effort on your part.

It won’t however give you a deep, penetrative clean which if you are in a position where the brickwork requires cleaning is probably what you were hoping for come the end of the task. Cleaning brickwork can be difficult to judge and dependent on the type of cleaning fluid you are using and the surface itself, washing by hand could potentially leave you unsatisfied with the end result.

Pressure Washing

The pressure washer is the go to piece of equipment when any large surface area needs a deep cleanse it seems. It will give you the power and efficiency from high water pressure that allows you to get into the nooks and crannies and really blast away not just the excess dirt and marks from your brickwork.

Once you’ve blasted off the excess dirt and got into all areas of the brickwork and mortar there is a danger that by blasting at the surface you are in fact damaging the surface for good and leaving behind not just a surface that looks brand new, but a new surface itself – not the one you originally had when you turned on the pressure washer.

Industrial Cleaner from APT

At APT we develop our products over many years to ensure that they not only effectively perform the cleaning tasks they say they do, but that they are safe to use and leave no lasting damage at all to the surfaces being treated. We’ve taken this approach with our Extreme Wash 80 product, which is perfect for the tricky surface to clean – brickwork. http://www.aptcommercialchemicals.co.uk/extreme-wash-80-acid-brick-cleaner-2

You won’t have to worry about trying many different methods of cleaning your bricks once you’ve used Extreme Wash 80 as it is a product that works no matter the surface or the methods you use to clean with it.

It is a concentrated cleaning fluid which works perfectly on brickwork and also functions as a highly effective industrial descaler, so if you require the exterior of your premises to be fully cleaned and looking brand new, and your pipe work is struggling to function to its full potential due to limescale build-up, this product is definitely for you. It’s fast acting, doesn’t require too much elbow grease and will save you time and money testing out all the other, less effective, brick cleaners on the market. For more information visit our online catalogue or call the customer service team today and we’ll be happy to offer guidance on your specific situation regarding brick cleaning and exterior work.

Case Study - K Rend Cleaning and Algae Removal at Garnteg Primary School

Case Study

K Rend Cleaning and Algae Removal at Garnteg Primary School

Client: Torfaen County Borough Council, Garnteg Primary School

Project: The client’s school building was in a very bad state with over 15 years of red and black algae growth, moss, lichen build up and staining which was very off putting to new potential children and parents wishing to come to the school. The school had an excellent record for teaching and a fantastic range of facilities, but the external façade was in need of attention. The local authority called APT after the head of the school requested help to find an algae removal solution or to enhance the visual impact of the school.

The Challenge

Several companies had already quoted for cleaning and re-painting the k render surface and some commercial cleaning companies did not respond after seeing the extent of the algae problem. There were several issues with the cleaning programme, the school was built over three levels and some with very limited access, and the school would remain open whilst the cleaning took place which included very young children, teachers and parents to be considered. This was all taken in to account during the consultation with the client and allowances were scheduled into the working plan for approval with the client and managed vigorously on a day to day basis with flexibility and allowances for any programme changes.

APT’S Solution

APT carried out a full survey of the property and there was over 3000 square meters of k render surface coating on three levels and some with very limited access. We discussed the type of cleaning and method with the client along with the ongoing future maintenance programme.

After receiving approval we arranged the cleaning program and hired the specialised lift access and allocated the materials including the APT k render cleaner and algae remover which would kill algae and remove moss and other surface stains (Algae Free). We carried out a test sample for approval by the property services manager and head of school. We completed the k render cleaning and treatment works over a 10 day period working late evenings and weekends to minimise disruption to the school programme.

Result

The results spoke for themselves and the head of school and all staff and many parents commenting that the school was as good as new. The k render did not need to be painted as first proposed saving thousands of pounds.
